The Nigeria Labour Congress has called on the Federal Government to extend its current war against corruption to states and local governments in the country.
The NLC President, Ayuba Waba, who said this during the third national delegate conference of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria in Katsina, maintained that the NLC would be happy “if the Federal Government ensures that it (the Federal Government) beams its searchlight on how states and councils funds are being managed too.”

According to him, it has become necessary for the Federal Government to look into the books of states and local governments in view of alleged mass looting of public treasury by immediate past governors and their cronies.
Waba maintained that due to looting of states and councils’ treasuries by the governors, most states in the country lacked basic infrastructure while their people suffer.
He said, “The war against corruption should not stop at the federal ministries or past government officials but should be extended to states and local government councils.
He said, “The NLC is worried about the mass looting of public treasury by past immediate governors. They must return all illegal monies stolen from public treasury.”
On the current state of Nigerian judiciary, the labour leader called for full autonomy of the judicial sector as contained in the 1999 Constitution.
