Two of the 12 players selected by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation for the 2016 International Table Tennis Federation’s World Junior Championships have said their aim is to win in their categories.
The NTTF on Monday released the list of players for the competition after an initial two-week camping, which involved 20 junior players. The World Juniors will hold in Cape Town, South Africa in November.
The 12 players – six boys and six girls – who the NTTF said would go for another phase of camping, are Azeez Solanke, Amadi Umeh, Tobi Falana, Rilwan Akanni, Emmanuel Augustine and Babafemi Babatunde while Tosin Oribamise and Ajoke Ojomu led the girls’ team which include Agnes Onoja, Halimot Ayinla, Rofiat Jimoh and Vivian Akpan.

Solanke and Ayinla told our correspondent that they were motivated by seven-time Olympian, Segun Toriola, who led the camp, to excel in the sport.
“The camp we had was very interesting and challenging. I want to go to South Africa and win the competition like many senior players did. We have been told that the competition will not be easy but I believe that I will do my best and come back with a good result,”Ayinla said.
Solanke said, “I am happy to have made it this far because it could have been anybody selected for the finals. Being taught more about table tennis by a great player like Toriola is a rare privilege and I will not forget what I have been taught ahead of the competition.

“There is still another camping to be done but I am already dreaming of winning the boys’ singles in South Africa. I won’t let any opponent intimidate me because we all are going for the same goal.”
