The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun has pledged commitment to teachers’ promotion in the state.The governor, who made the pledge at the Arcade Ground, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, also announced approval of outstanding leave bonus for civil servants in the state.

He stressed the importance of teachers in reshaping and developing the society, adding that the day was an opportunity for the professionals to take stock of their roles in nation building.

Amosun explained that education remained the bedrock of the nation, as: “Teachers play key role in transforming the lives of our children. We would continue to provide conducive learning environment to aid the process of teaching and learning. I also want to assure that your promotion and other entitlements would be duly attended to.’’

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota, said the day was an opportunity to appreciate the invaluable contributions of teachers.

The Chairman, Ogun State Teaching Service Commission, (TESCOM), Mrs. Olabosipo Ogunsan advised teachers to work harder to justify the huge investment in the sector.

The state NUT Chairman, Titilope Adebanjo and his counterpart in the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Akeem Lasisi, commended the governor for improving the education standard in the state.

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release the detained Commissioner for Finance, Toyin Ojo and Accountant General of the State, Mrs. Yemisi Owolabi.The state NLC Chairman, Ade Adesanimi, said the call became necessary so that they could come home to pay the salaries and allowances of workers.

Governor Ayodele Fayose also urged the anti-graft agency to consider the plight of the workers and release the detained officials.Fayose announced automatic promotion of primary school graduate teachers on grade 14 to 15 and presented car gifts with a weeklong holiday to London or Dubai for all the best teachers in primary

Represented by his Vice-chairman, Gbenga Akosile, Adesanmi, the NLC chairman said: “If the EFCC has anything against the officers, it should charged them to court,”The governor, who spoke at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti, said: “Let them fight me because I am not going to keep quiet.”He lauded the teachers’ efforts in making the state to come top in the results of the National Examination Council (NECO) for two consecutive times.
