Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has said his government will begin paying a monthly salary of N20,000 to a 26-year-old mother of a three-year-old special needs child, Mrs. Charity Ugwu.

According to Ugwu, who narrated her ordeal to SUNDAY PUNCH amid tears, she met her 35-year-old boyfriend, Mr. Azubieke James, in 2011. She added that he impregnated her in 2012 and that she was delivered of her physically and mentally challenged child in 2013.”

Ugwu, an Enugu State native who resides in the National Supply area of Lafia Local Government Area, said, “I am very happy about the governor’s gesture because I did not know I will ever run into this kind of luck in life.”

Al-Makura told SUNDAY PUNCH that the state government deemed it fit to place the mother on a N20,000 monthly salary “because she does not have any job to take care of her three-year-old baby, Godwin Azubieke, who was allegedly abandoned by her boyfriend because she was delivered of an abnormal child.”

The governor, speaking during an inspection tour of some ministries in the state, said he was touched by the condition of the struggling mother.

“Every month, please come with your baby to the Government House to receive your N20,000. We are going to commence the payment from the month of September,” the governor told Ugwu.
