The Nigerian military on Monday buried the deceased Commander of the 272 Special Task Force Tanks Battalion, Lt. Col. Muhammad Abu Ali and five other soldiers at the Nigerian Military Cemetery, Abuja.
Staff Sgt. Muazu Ibrahim, Sgt Husseini Jafaru, Sgt Okon Bassey, Cpl Chukwu Simon, PTE Salishu Lawal, and Able Seaman Patrick Paul.
The soldiers who were killed by the insurgents at the Battle of Mallam Fatori were described as among the best in the Armed Forces.
Both the President who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, and the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Buratai described the fallen soldiers as gallant, brave, dependable and loyal.
The Army Chief rendered his tributes to the fallen troops in between tears which interrupted him all through the speech, read with a deeply emotional voice.
The top security leadership of the country was represented at the event.
Buhari and Buratai assured the grieving family members of the fallen soldiers that their welfare would be given priority.
Buratai said that the deceased colonel led the gallant troops to recapture Monguno, Baga, New Marge, Bama, Gwoza, Banki Junction, Gamboru Ngala, Yale, Yemteke, Bitam, Doronaira, Kagarwa, Ärrege, Abadam, and Mallam Fatori.
