The RIVERS State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday said that the violence that marred the rerun elections in the state was orchestrated by security agencies with the aim of making the state ungovernable for political reasons.
Wike also announced that the Police High Command had arrested all his personal police details who accompanied him to stop SARS Commander from rigging the rerun Rivers East Senatorial District.
He explained that all the said policemen had been detained in Abuja by the Police High Command.
The governor, who made this remark while addressing members of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, who paid him a Christmas visit, said that the Police High Command was insisting that the policemen should not have accompanied him to stop the SARS Commander, Akin Fakorede.
Wike explained that he was compelled to take action because the previous day, policemen and soldiers were used by the All Progressives Congress at Ikwerre LGA to beat up some PDP agents and force collation officers to concoct results.
He said, “The security agencies orchestrated plans to cause violence with a view to making the state ungovernable for ulterior motives.
“As I speak with you, all my personal police details, who accompanied me to stop Fakorede from successfully rigging the Rivers East Senatorial District election, have been arrested and detained in Abuja.”
The governor pointed out that Rivers State had been peaceful since the conclusion of the rerun elections.
The governor insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission connived with the APC to print fake result sheets ahead of the elections, adding that INEC and the police had swept the matter under the carpet.
He observed that many INEC officials, who were victims of violence by security agencies, were under pressure from the electoral commission to deny the physical assault on them.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, King Dandeson Jaja, Amayanabo of Opobo, warned against the militarisation of the electoral process.
The monarch commended Wike for always defending the rights of the people of the state.
Reacting to the claim that the APC was involved in the printing of fake result sheets before the rerun election, the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Chris Finebone, said it was Wike that perpetrated everything he accused the APC, INEC and police of doing.
He said “…But we are convinced beyond doubt that the governor has danced naked in the public square, he should deal with the whirlwind he caused for himself and stop blaming the APC and INEC for his self-inflicted misfortune. Neither INEC nor the APC sent him on his mission of malfeasance.”
