She who was allegedly murdered in her farm on Tuesday by suspected herdsmen.Shaibu who visited the community on behalf of Governor Godwin Obaseki, was accompanied by the state Commissioner of Police, Aliru Gwandu and Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Aliru Ibrahim.

They were received by son of the diseased, Joseph Odiamehi along with other community leaders where Odiamehi explained that the search party found his mother dead in the farm after waiting for her return to no avail.

He urged the people, especially hunters and the vigilante groups to assist government and the security agencies by providing useful information that could lead to the arrest of the criminals.

Shaibu added that government was very concerned about the development and called on the communities to be very vigilant and report strange persons to security agencies.

“This is a very sad development and we sympathize with you on this. The governor got the sad news less than three hours ago and asked me to come immediately. We assure you of government commitment to eradicating the menace,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bishop of the Benin Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Reverend Peter Imasuen has charged the Federal Government to tackle the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers by providing cattle ranches for the cattle rustlers in their home states.

Imasuen who gave the charge in Benin City yesterday while delivering his message at the Second Session of the 18th Synod of the Diocese, stressed that the interests of all parties must be protected to ensure safety of lives and property in the country.

Cattle cannot just be moving up and down in a civilized society. Cattle ranches should be established in the herdsmen domain while farmers should have their farms adequately protected in their domains,” he stated.
